Design With Sustainability In Mind
The concept of sustainability is gaining traction within New Zealand’s building industry and Ponsonby based architectural design and build company, Arhaus Group, is at the leading edge of this change, including a move toward sustainable business premise design.

Managing the entire process from architectural design through to tendering and construction, Arhaus Group provide a custom-built tailor made service producing superior buildings based on passive solar design concepts to increase efficiencies.
Established in 2003 by directors Dan Heyworth and Nat Holloway, Arhaus Group was founded with the underlying vision to build warm, durable, functional, energy efficient homes individually crafted to client’s requirements by experienced and committed architects, draftsman, project managers, quantity surveyors, builders and engineers.
“The cornerstone of everything we do is passive design, which is about making sure that the building can regulate temperature, air changes and humidity naturally without technological aids. Homes stay warm in winter and cool in summer, are energy and water efficient, are a stunning and practical design and are constructed of sustainable non-toxic materials,” Dan says.
The Arhaus Group team is committed to sustainable building design, with the architects they use having an average of around 15 years experience in the field.
“Our architects have designed hundreds of houses this way and all our trades people, material suppliers and builders subscribe to the sustainability ethos. I want to ensure that each project is treated with a high level of commitment and attention to detail. We have a team that enjoy working with good quality materials, are reliable and turn up on time to do the job at a fair price,” Dan says.
Covering the greater Auckland area and Bay of Plenty, Arhaus Group have been commissioned to design houses throughout New Zealand including two residences in Otago just recently. Although predominantly building residential homes to date, Arhaus Group is expanding its design to commercial projects also.
With a specific interest in promoting the use of engineered timbers, Arhaus Group are undertaking larger commercial projects and pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with renewable resource timbers for use in office, retail, hotel and warehouse constructions. “You can do a lot more with timber than people realise. It’s a locally grown and manufactured sustainable resource which can really enhance your business environment leading to increased productivity, profitability and reputation.”
Engineered timber includes a range of derivative wood products which are manufactured by binding together wood strands, particles and fibres with resins to form composite materials which are stronger, stiffer and sometimes lighter than traditional timbers. They are engineered to specifications, which are tested to meet New Zealand building code standards.
With a proven track record and impressive portfolio of completed projects, stylish, contemporary and sustainable, talk to Arhaus Group for help in designing and building an exceptional home or business. As the saying goes, no one ever regrets buying quality.
